Particle beams are once again circulating in the world's most powerful particle accelerator, CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
A clockwise circulating beam was established at 9pm GMT this evening (20th Nov).
This is an important milestone on the road towards first physics at the LHC, expected in 2010.

Congresswoman Diana DeGette is "pleased" with the abortion provision included in the Senate's version of health reform legislation.

Birth control designed to prevent a pregnancy before one occurs would not be prohibited, he said.
"It is really very simple," said Vancura, who described himself as a scientist with a doctorate in physics.
"Our amendment is about life and the right to life. Forms of birth control that do not cause an abortion would not be prohibited. With an abortion, someone dies."

If the lawsuit is successful, the petition still could be allowed on the November ballot if the language was modified to meet a judge's requirements.
Richard Ziser, the conservative Las Vegas activist who announced the Personhood petition drive on Oct. 21, said it is clear from litigation that the ACLU and Planned Parenthood understand the petition's objectives.

Coach Tommy Stewart has finalized his Fayetteville FireAntz roster of 18 players for Thursday night's Southern Professional Hockey League opener.
Stewart kept Sean Cryer, who played in 42 games last season, over Adam Spinarsky as the team's sixth defenseman.

Aeroflex has announced that China Mobile Communications Company (CMCC) and Motorola are using Aeroflex's highly successful TM500 LTE test mobile at International Telecommunications Union's (ITU) Telecom World 2009 as part of China Mobile's TD-LTE booth demonstrations.
Aeroflex's TM500 will be on display at the CMCC booth #4221 in Hall 4 from October 5-9, 2009.
The TM500 LTE test mobile includes Category 4 throughput capabilities up to 150 Mb per second.

The world's biggest milk dryer has been fired up at Fonterra's Edendale dairy factory in Southland, creating about 31 new production jobs.
The new dryer, the fourth on the site near Invercargill, can dry 100 litres of milk to create 10kg of whole milkpowder each second, spewing out 30 tonnes an hour.
It will produce about 135,000 tonnes of powder in a season.
